The Even Keel Project was delighted to be invited by The Volvo Ocean Race to the Galway stop over stage of the 2008/09 race. Whilst in Ireland the project ran 'Try Sailing' sessions, where local disabled people and disabled visitors to the event were invited to give the sport a try first hand in the  Artemis20 keel boats, right in the thick of the all race and carnival excitement.

Whilst there the project managed to provide this fantastic experience for over twenty sailors who had never sailed before. Thet were also complimented on the excellent support shown by all the Volvo Ocean Race teams, who were also keen to enjoy the fun sailing the project provided, It made the day for the guests who were fortunate enough to sail with some of the event's super stars.

The Even Keel Project is currently seeking sponsors in the Galway region to support the creation of a permanent site, so that many more individuals and groups can have the opportunity to try sailing on an even keel.
