The Artemis Even Keel UK were joined by a selection of talented sailors, both abled and disabled, who took to the water to compete in The Artemis Even Keel Challenge which ran alongside the Sonar Class event today at Cowes The concept behind this challenge was to partner one able bodied sailor with one disabled for a fleet race during this world famous regatta in order to highlight the projects' aims. We were delighted to welcome some fantastic sailors down to UKSA to test their skills with the Artemis20 fleet. After a delayed start and a little waiting around the teams took to the water to battle it out for the bragging rights but unfortunately the weather didn't want to play and the race was eventually cancelled as the wind vanished. One team however did manage to reach the marker and Jackie Gay and Giles Corner were therefore deemed to be champions! This was very closely followed by Claire 'Minxy' Tibbott and Michael Cogswell who would have reached the marker had they not been stopped by a Sonar sailor and third palce was awarded to Lucy Hodges and Adam McGoven. The Artemis Even Keel Project UK would like to thank all the sailors who took part and made the day so much fun. The talent that was on display was also impressive and really emphasised the fact that having a disability does not have to be a disadvantage on the water. We would like to extend our thanks to Clare Andrew, Michael Cogswell, Alan Smith, Lucy Hodges, Jackie Gay, Adam Mcgoven, Alex Richam and Matt Grier and we are looking forward to sailing with you again soon! Even you Matt!!
