The unique adaptability of both the Even Keel Project and the Artemis 20 was available for all to see last week during a fantastic weeks sailing in Medemblik, Holland where the IFDS worlds were taking place.
The Even Keel Project were invited to showcase the project and the Artemis 20 to all in this incredible enviroment.
During the previous week the team had been providing try sailing sessions back in the UK for school children with a wide range of dissabilities, to then pack and stack the boats and travel to northern Holland for the International Federation of Dissabled Sailing World Championships, where the worlds top dissabled sailors would fight it out for the coverted medal places in the 3 paralympic classes, Sonar, Skud 18 & 2.4.
The Even Keel Project provided an opportunity for all involved with this top level sailing event to try something new and exciting, the Artemis 20, with time on the water after racing for both event sailors, coaches & other support staff to get out for some fun and experience what the Artemis 20 has to offer.
A wide range of sailors took the oppertunity to test the Artemis 20 in varying conditions and all returned with positive comments
on both the boat and the project.
French superstar sailors Damien Sequin (2.4) & Bruno Jourden (Sonar) showed us how it should be done with a masterclass of sailing putting the Artemis 20 through its paces in a fair breeze, no one could catch" them. Once ashore with smiling approval, they commented on the Artemis 20 as a "fast fun boat that they have enjoyed sailing and would "like to use more".
Ron Bugg, the father of Aussie 2.4 sailor Matt had been aware of the Artemis 20 for over a year and was excited to see it at the IFDS worlds and could not wait to get out for a blast. "I have read all about this boat and been looking forward to sailing it for a while now, its excellent to see it here in this enviroment".
Ron took to the water after sailing on tuesday evening with light airs and came back a happy man, "this boat does not dissapoint, she sails as good as she looksand i think i need one in my life" he commented on his return.
With the Greek sonar team including Christofou Vasilis & Finnish 2.4 sailor Niko Salomaa also getting out on the water in the Artemis 20, both the boat andproject have been well recieved in this arena and many more people are aware of what is now being achieved.
