The Even Keel team sailed into Kent on June 28th for a weeks activities based at Queenborough, Isle of Sheppy where almost 150 youngsters and adults form local schools and community groups were excitedly booked in for some on the warter fun with the project.
The event was brought together through a partnership built between the Artemis Even Keel Project Uk & Sheppy & Sittingbourne School Sport Partnership to enable the sport of sailing to show the benefits, excitement and inclusion for all.
With great sunny skies and fair winds the weeks sailing proved a huge success with all who came along wanting to get out on the water for the first time, with great feedback & comments expressing the impact a project such as this can have on both individuals and communities alike, building strong partnerships and encouaging personel development are core principles of the project and this event proves the concept works brilliantly.
Comments from a local school who experienced some time on the water with us-
'Hello Even Keel Project'
I'm writing with our group comments from our day's sailing with you yesterday.
Firstly, a massive thank you from all of us! We all had a wild time- a very memorable day, for lots of reasons!
I asked around the class this morning for comments on the day, and here they are:
Robert - "It was fun and I had a great time!"
Ross - "Chicken." (He also selectd the quick and fast symbols.)
Lauren - "It was good."
Stefan - "It made me feel happy!"
Ricky - "I had a great time and I liked pulling the ropes."
Jade - "I've never done it before. I love it, I love it, I love it! I want to go again!"
Beth - "I liked turning the boat around."
Luke - "My dad said he'd take me again and my dad nearly fell asleep on the boat it was so relaxing."
We did a power point presentation which we showed to the rest of the school this. afternoon in a whole school Show and Tell. The photos came out really well.
You'd love the photos! I'll try to attach a few for you.
Anyway, a huge thanks again to you, your instructors and others who helped.
We had an amazing time and you've certainly inspired all of our pupils (and me) to want to try it again.
Luke's dad even said he'd take him sailing.
"What a brilliant day. I hope you've enjoyed your time in Kent - please let us know when you'll be back. We cant wait !!!!!"
We look forward to building a strong future with all the organisations involved with this fantastic week in Queenborough & cant wait to be back sailing in this unique location with you all again.
