Artemis20 class at the RYA Sailability Multi Class Regatta
This weekend saw The Artemis Even Keel Project UK enter its fleet of Artemis20s into this rapidly expanding Sailability regatta held at the beautiful Rutland Sailing Club. .
With four of the six boat fleet entered we were all really excited to see how the teams would fair and were delighted to see all the boats competing well and not reporting many problems, a feat not matched by some of the other more established classes
After the weather on Saturday, with reported gusts of 25 to 30 knots, prevented a full days racing, Sunday saw a short fleet race followed by the scheduled pursuit. The team were delighted to welcome some excellent sailors into the boats to showcase their racing potential and were even more delighted to see some new faces as well as some well recognised names into the ever growing support network we have. After meeting Lucy Hodges and Gary Butler during Blind Week 2009 in Cowes we have been delighted to see them back in the boats and being as competitive as always, especially Lucy who is part of the VI GBR sailing squad. It was this competitive nature which also saw Lucy and her crew Ian Shirra drive on and secure wins in both the fleet and pursuit races.
The regatta and Rutland sailing Club have both been excellent and the weekend saw many new sailors enjoy doing what they love most. We would like to extend our thanks to everyone involved in the weekend, especially Debbie Blatchford, Manager of the RYA Sailabilty, Bruce Bonar, Manager of Rutland Sailing Club and the ever happy to help Guy Hilton, Bosun at the club. To further extend the relationship between Rutland SC and The Artemis Even Keel Project we have also decided to leave two of the artemis20s at the club for an additional week so that everyone there can enjoy this exciting new boat. If any sailors at the club want to try them out please contact Guy Hilton to who will be able to make the arrangements there. Alternatively email us at info@theevenkeel.com and we will make the necessary arrangements.
